Portia trained at Allen & Overy LLP (A&O) and qualified as a solicitor in 2008 specialising in Construction and Banking law.
Portia was an associate in the Projects, Energy and Infrastructure sector of the Banking Department at A&O from 2008 – 2014. Portia worked on construction contracts for various PPP deals including wind farms, solar plants and waste to energy projects and was the lead associate for Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi in their £1.6 billion project finance loan portfolio acquisition from Royal Bank of Scotland. Portia was the trainee mentor for all trainees in the Projects Department and responsible for organising a series of training seminars for each intake, to ensure a good grounding in key concepts of Project Finance Law and soft skills to ensure the trainees obtained the maximum benefit from their seat in the department.
During her time at A&O Portia worked for 6 months in the Tokyo office and undertook many Pro Bono projects including advising at the Battersea Citizens Advice Bureau and won the bid to provide workshops for the Rwandan Government on project finance initiatives through an incentive set up by the joint venture of UNOPS and A4ID Lawyers for International Development. Portia was responsible for compiling the learning materials.
