Objectives:
On completion of this course, delegates will be better able to:

  • Understand the relationship between the financial statements – the income statement, the balance sheet and the cash flow statement
  • Understand the form and content of the annual report and accounts
  • Understand the key financial drivers of a leading plc company
  • Understand the need to increase their knowledge and understanding of financial information to be able to better support the aims and objectives of their commercial clients

  • The Board
  • The key responsibilities of the Board of Directors
  • The financial statements and their context
  • The annual report and accounts
  • The purpose and uses of financial statements
  • The income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statements
  • Financial performance – 10 pertinent questions and rations
  • Introduction and context
  • Profitability – is the business sufficiently profitable?
  • Financial strength – how is the business funded?
  • Liquidity and solvency

Outcomes:
The success measure for this course are that trainees:

  • Improve their understanding of the form and content of corporate accounts and particularly the form and content of the annual report and accounts
  • Improve their understanding of the context and applicability of financial information to the work that they undertake for commercial clients
